Announcement - Tierra Sol Seattle branch closing April 2020
Effective today April 27th, 2020, we regret to announce that we will be permanently closing our Seattle, WA Branch of Tierra Sol and ceasing operations in the United States.
This decision in part, follows revenue challenges caused by a changing operating environment over the last year due to tariffs imposed on Chinese sourced materials. The current shutdown due to the COVID 19 crisis where Tierra Sol was deemed not to be an essential service, compounded the situation and made the profitable operation of Tierra Sol Seattle no longer viable. Tierra Sol Seattle is the smallest operating branch in the GESCO Group of Companies which operates seven Canadian facilities serving the Tierra Sol, Savoia, Shnier, and Division 9 customers from coast to coast.
GESCO remains committed to the Tierra Sol business within its Canadian operations. The growth of our porcelain tile and slab business remains a strategic growth driver for the group of companies, building on Tierra Sol’s strong foundation of success as an industry leader in the tile business from its beginning in 1979.
This decision is difficult given the commitment of our employees, customers, and suppliers during our time in the Pacific NW marketplace. We thank our employees for their passionate efforts to retain our business support over these unprecedented times. We also thank our customers for their support over the years. To serve you was a privilege not taken for granted. Under normal circumstances a decision of this type would have provided for a longer notice period.
Regarding our suppliers, most are active and supportive of our growing Canadian operation across the GESCO Group of Companies. There are many exciting opportunities to further align with them as we continue our path of development in all Canadian markets.
Further communication will be forwarded to provide our employees, customers, and suppliers answers to expected questions on the details of our exit transition plan over the coming weeks.
